Texas Independence
The Mexican American war started in the spring of 1846 and ended in the fall of 1847. But before the war started the two sides had to be established. In 1825 mexico defeats Spain and becomes a independent nation. At the time when mexico became a country it had very few citizens to settle the large amount of land that they had gained from Spain, the people who moved to Texas and were from Spanish decent were called Tijanos and Americans who moved to Texas were called Impresarios. The impresarios (or Americans who moved to Texas) were given free land to settle if they moved to Texas and in exchange they would have to follow Mexican laws become Mexican citizens and obey the catholic church. But rarely did these Americans settlers ever obey the Mexican commands most still felt like they were still living in America and obeyed American laws and Followed the constitution. By 1830 Americans in Texas greatly outnumbered Tijanos in Texas, most Americans were there illegally and felt no loyalty to Mexico. But One of these Impresarios was Stephan .F Austin who in 1834, established a colony,The main area of Austin's Colony was located in southeast Texas within an area bounded by the Lavaca and San Jacinto rivers. But Quickly and inevitably tensions grew between Texas Americans And Mexicans due to Texans going to the Mexican Government and asking for independence but when the Mexican government refused. Texas then decided to declare itself an independent republic this outraged the Mexican government. The president of Mexico himself vowed to take back Texas himself. His army entered Texas and found the Texans completely unprepared. One Mexican General sent his troops up the coast and defeated all the Texas solders he and his army encountered then proceeded to execute all those surrendered. While Santa Ana (president of mexico) sent his larger force of troops to San Antonio where the Famous battle took place, the Alamo where only two troops survived. For the next month, a newly created Texan army under the command of Sam Houston retreated towards the border of Louisiana. eventually the new Texas army was able to win a battle and capture Santa Ana. Then when the U.S annexed Texas The Mexican American war started
